A lot of people wonder, IS THIS SAFE FOR MY DOG???? I will be doing a few blog entries about what is safe and what isn't for your pup. First up, my favorite, CHEESE!!!!
There are many different kinds of cheeses, such as: soft cheeses such as Camembert, Brie, cottage, cream, Danish blue, mascarpone, mozzarella, ricotta and Roquefort; hard such as cheddar, Edam, Parmesan, Monterey Jack, Stilton and a lot more. So is cheese good for dogs????
Let’s answer some of the questions about Cheese and your pup. It’s not a straight answer of YES or NO. You have to look at many factors.
KNOW YOUR DOG – Is your dog lactose intolerant? Only a small percentage of pups are lactose intolerant. When first giving your pup cheese, start off with a small amount as a treat and monitor to see if there is a reaction. This is a GREAT TIP for introducing any NEW FOOD into your dog’s diet. Does your dog have high cholesterol? Or is overweight? As cheese is high in fat, if your pup is overweight you may want to say NO to cheese (or in very small moderation).
WHAT SIZE IS YOUR DOG – You don’t want to OVERDO the cheese or treats for your pup. It’s the same as if you eat too much cheese, your pup could feel bloated and gassy or diarrhea... NO PUPPY or PERSON WANTS THAT!!! YUCK!! MODERATION is key. If you have a small pup, maybe a small bit of cheese is best as a treat every now and again. If you have a larger dog maybe larger bit of cheese so your dog can taste (if they eat fast).
